The Second Annual Oxford Postgraduate Conference in Assyriology
22-23 February 2013
Wolfson College, University of Oxford
The organisers of the 'The Second Annual Oxford Postgraduate Conference in Assyriology' wish to extend an invitation to all European students whose research relates to the field of Assyriology. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for students at a postgraduate level to present their research to a group of peers and to establish connections between young Assyriologists throughout Europe.
The first Postgraduate Conference in Assyriology, sponsored by the Lorne Thyssen Research Fund for Ancient World Topics at Wolfson College, University of Oxford, was held at Wolfson College on March 3, 2012. The conference allowed for eleven postgraduate students in the field to present their research and was attended by about twenty students from across the United Kingdom. Following a successful first year, we now wish to open the conference to students from other parts of Europe.
Through the generosity of The British Institute for the Study of Iraq and the Lorne Thyssen Research Fund for Ancient World Topics at Wolfson College, University of Oxford, a two-day conference will be held at Wolfson College, Oxford from Friday afternoon 22 February to Saturday evening 23 February. The format will allow each speaker 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for questions. Presentations will take place on Friday from 15:00 to 19:00 with one break for refreshments, and on Saturday from 9:00 to 19:00 with breaks for lunch and refreshments.
The conference, refreshments, and lunch will be provided at no cost for a limited number of people on a first come basis, and we will be awarding limited travel and accommodation bursaries.
If you wish to attend and/or present at the conference, please write to opca at orinst.ox.ac.uk and supply the information below. We request registered interest and titles of presentations no later than 1 February 2013.
If you wish to be considered for a limited bursary, please send your CV and an abstract of your paper to opca at orinst.ox.ac.uk to be forwarded to our independent selection committee of Dr Jacob Dahl (Oxford), Dr Frances Reynolds (Oxford), and Dr Martin Worthington (Cambridge).
